Practices

At Crowfoot Farm, we farm using no-till intensive practices and are proud to be Certified Organic by MOFGA.

We consider ourselves stewards of the land and soil and this method allows us to farm holistically and focus on building soil bio-diversity, mitigating the effects of climate change, increasing soil organic matter, and farming at a human scale.

We till the soil once to open up our fields and build permanent raised beds but after that, our beds undergo very little soil disturbance. We keep our soil covered at all times which decreases the amount of time spent weeding, conserves water, and protects our soils from erosion, all while feeding the soil food-web. For us, no-till farming allows for a more sustainable operation both environmentally and for our bodies/lifestyle. Farming is not just a career, but a lifestyle (and one we are excited to adopt for the rest of our lives!) and building our farm in ways that supports our longevity and takes care of our bodies while also simplifying tasks is more feasible for us through our no-till practices.
