Our Story

In 2021, Emma was apprenticing on a farm in Scarborough where she met Cass and Dom. They were work-for share members who came and spent time on the farm each week in exchange for their CSA share. Not long after, they bought a house in Biddeford that had some extra land they wanted to offer up to a farmer looking to start their farm business. Emma was lucky enough to be put in touch with them again and came by their farmstead to check out the space. At first, it seemed a bit small for the size operation Emma had intended to start but with the increasingly abysmal pandemic housing/land market, Emma decided to pivot and scale down her farming operation to fit the space that was available to her. Crowfoot Farm will be cultivating a mere 0.18 acres but, with intensive succession plantings and very intentional varietal selection, will be able to feed many community members through its CSA and wholesale accounts. Emma is endlessly grateful to have crossed paths with Cass and Dom and to be working so closely with them as she starts her farm business!

Crowfoot Farm gets it's name from the nickname, Buttercup, that Emma's Noni gave her as a little girl. Crowfoot is another name for the common buttercup flower found in woodlands, meadows, and along creeks. Buttercups always remind Emma of her Noni and Crowfoot is a nod to her constant love, support, and tenacity.
